Better Than an Oprah Finale

Classical Modern Room
Not our room, but I wish it were.

We've been a little light with the posting (read: no posts) this week, but that's only because there's lots a brewin' here at STUDY. Here's the short version: We've been scouring the greater Chicago area for new finds to bring you at Dose Market, finishing up about a million tiny house projects that have been neglected for the better part of the last year AND we'll be playing host to four humans and one canine this week (the real reason those house projects got finished). So for the time being, let's hope the photo above tides you over. It's perfect, no? I can't remember where I saw this originally - I'm thinking Elle Decor UK? - and if anyone has an idea please post in the comments. Needless to say, this was in an inspiration folder filed under rooms that will make you cry big sweaty Oprah tears. Really... you should start your own.

What. A. Week. You may have noticed we didn't check in with a round-up last week because, oh yeah, we we're prepping for the best Vintage Bazaar to date and the internet fell apart. Well now everything is back up and running and so are we. We've soft-launched our store and have already picked up a few odds and ends to show off when we hit Dose Market on June 5th. Tonight - however - is all about Wright Plus preview night.

STUDY at Dose Market

doseposter

Just when we caught our breath from the flurry of excitement that was last weekend... wouldn't you know we'd turn right around and do it all over again. We're very excited to announce that STUDY will be participating in Dose Market on Sunday, June 5th from 10am - 4pm. Held at the River East Art Center, Dose is a new European-style market celebrating "Chicago’s most dynamic gathering of innovative fashion, artisan food, and high design." Well, well... it's nice to be in such esteemed company.

A New Year, A New Vintage Bazaar

STUDY at The Vintage Bazaar in Pilsen

We'll always have a place in our heart for the frenzy of the DANK Haus, the grittiness of the Congress and the vendor clubhouse that was the Logan Square pop-up shop, but we think The Vintage Bazaar has really hit its stride this time around when it set up shop in Pilsen this past Saturday. It's brighter, the aisles are larger and most of all, its way more shopable. Once again Katherine Raz and Libby Alexander (and a lot of fantastic volunteers) did an amazing job of making 50 vendors and hordes of happy shoppers feel right at home in the expansive loft space above Architectural Anarchy.

The Big Easy Lonny

Best of Lonny Magazine May/June 2011 Issue
via Lonny

We continue our love/hate relationship with online magazines today as Lonny releases its third issue of 2011. We love them since they provide an opportunity to get a look at spaces that aren't on the radar of major shelter mags, but we hate them in toto because browsing a magazine online and "flipping" through pages is awkward beyond belief. And $34.85 for a print version!?!? No thank you. So in the interest of public service and general do-goodism, we've pulled a few of our favorite spaces from the current issue... just in case your the type who still buys periodicals from a newsstand.

Design Digest: The Sullivan's Oak Park Tudor

Oak Park River Forest Kitchen Walk - Sullivan Residence

Last week STUDY was thrilled to be a part the Oak Park and River Forest Kitchen Walk for a third time. We're beginning to feel like veteran stylists for this much anticipated event, benefiting the Parenthesis Family and Child Center. Almost a year ago we got a call to assist interior designer Julie Sullivan select paint colors for her newly renovated English Tudor. We were immediately struck with her and husband Noah's amazing space, with a kitchen designed by our friend Jobeth Halpin of Figg-Halpin Design. Selecting paint colors is about my favorite thing in the world, and to add to the fun Julie and kitchen designer JoBeth Halpin asked me to style the entire first floor, including placing Julie's amazing collection of paintings, sculpture, and accessories. This was an incredible collaboration and we were thrilled to be contribute to this remarkable home.

Congress Theater ceiling
Congress Theater

Does that ceiling conjure up any dimly lit vintage memories for you? It does for us since the Congress played mothership to The Vintage Bazaar way back in August '10. And wouldn't you know, we're now a week out from the next bazaar in Pilsen. We promise to bring everything you've come to expect from STUDY with a few twists thrown in just for good measure. Also, we paid for electricity so no unexpected brown outs this time around.

Killing It at One King's Lane

I never thought I'd be typing these words, but One King's Lane has seriously been bringing the heat lately. Once the discount purveyor of tacky frames and deals on ProFlowers orders - okay, they still offer both of these - One King's Lane has amped up the design-power in recent months with "Tastemaker Tag Sales" curated by designers and shop owners from all walks of the design community. Sure we've been impressed with the offerings lately, but our jaws hit the floor when last night's sale from designer Adam Bram Straus went live.

It's like STUDY on steroids... or STUDY with a sugar daddy... either way, it's pretty damn amazing.

Where Are They Now: Vintage Slipper Chairs

Vintage Slipper/Bergere Chair

Who knew we'd have another Where Are They Now post up so soon? You never know when you're going to run into a piece of furniture you've sold, but we had a hunch that these chairs would pop up in some new and amazing incarnation since we sold them to our friend Karen Morava, owner of the Careful Peach Boutique in Oak Park. Part slipper chair, part bergère, Karen had grand plans when she saw these chairs in our inventory. Astounding results after the jump.
