The Vintage Bazaar Pops It Like It's Hot

The Vintage Bazaar pop-up shop happened this past weekend and then disappeared as fast as it came. It was sort of like Brigadoon only with more dancing and drinking. There were a ton of advantages to being in one spot for three days versus doing a one day event (read: I don't feel like I just ran a marathon) but Andrew and I both agree that the best part this time around is that we actually got to hang out with our fellow vendors and had a blast the entire time. Selfish? Maybe, but we also managed to sell some beautiful vintage pieces just in time for the holidays.

Win a Color & Design Consultation from STUDY

Yesterday's opening night party for The Vintage Bazaar went off without a hitch and now we're ready to head out to offer two more days of vintage finds for the holidays. For our "Black Friday" promo we offered last night's attendees the chance to win a free color and design consultation from STUDY and now we're opening it up to everyone!

TVB Preview: The Eagle Has Landed

As the next Vintage Bazaar fast approaches this coming weekend, we're hunkered down here at STUDY HQ polishing, sanding, lacquering... doing everything we can to bring you some truly unique vintage gifts for the holidays. One of our favorites so far is a monumental neoclassical lamp found at an estate sale in Skokie. That's right - neoclassical and Skokie - bet you never thought you'd see those two words written in the same sentence. More on this lamp's humble origins after the jump.

New but Nice: Midas Glassware

Midas Glassware by Front Design
via DWR

We spend a lot of time around these parts talking about the benefits of buying vintage, but every once in a while you come across a product that can't be passed up just because it wasn't around in 1965. Today's find is the Midas Collection from Swedish design collective Front. Simple, sophisticated, modern - we can't say enough about these golden gods. Get your holiday table spreads ready, 'cause here comes Midas.

Forget Mad Men

Johnson Publishing Interiors - Ebony - Jet Magazine
The funkiest test kitchen you'll ever see.
via Ebony

News came yesterday that the historic Johnson Publishing Company building was sold to Columbia College. Located at 820 South Michigan Avenue, the home to Ebony and Jet wasn't just a powerful symbol of how far the civil rights movement had come... it was an awesome example of early-seventies interior design. Pictures please...

Bronze Required, Leather Optional

1stdibs never ceases to amaze me. This time it's not because of some ridiculously overpriced but must-have sideboard. No, I'm talking about Peter Marino: Architectural Digest profilee, retail-starchitect and now, apparently, leather daddy with a penchant for petite bronzes. He's a man of many colors no doubt, but with the Huntington's new exhibition, Beauty and Power: Renaissance and Baroque Bronzes, Peter shows us how much he can liven things up at a staid old library and gardens.

TVB Preview: The Midas Touch

STUDY Vintage Bazaar Preview

We're in high gear for the next Vintage Bazaar - what, you didn't see yesterday's post - so that means lots of trips to estate sales, garage sales, the Salvation Army, the Brown Elephant... you know the drill. We've also had a spate of completely awesome finds of late and couldn't wait to share the wealth. Pardon the nighttime photos... but gold and yellow still read pretty well in low light.

Three Times a Charm

The Vintage Bazaar Logo

The good news? The mystery of the Nightwood chairs has been solved. The bad news? They're not vintage. But I suppose that's okay since they're a. still available, and b. still comfortable and gorgeous as all get out. Just wait twenty or so years and then you can drop the vintage moniker on anything, right? Coke cans, rolls of tape, Ziploc bags... just know that you won't find ANY of the aforementioned items when STUDY shows up at the next Vintage Bazaar, November 26 - 28 in Logan Square. That's right! Three days of vintage shopping bliss. Details after the jump.
