STUDY didn't go out on Valentine's Day. We purposely skipped all those "special" menus and waited to take in Lula Cafe's standing Monday night prix fixe farm dinner. Sure there's been a lot of resto talk around here lately, but our Chicago favorite deserves a mention.

Amalea Tshilds and Jason Hammel's Monday night tradition has never disappointed, and we were pleased as usual with this week's fare:
Chicken liver pate with quince mustard, pickled baby carrots, and grilled flatbread
La quercia prosciutto wrapped rushing waters trout with sunchokes, meyer lemon, almond, and parsnip puree
Rhubarb clafoutis with vanilla ice cream, cracked pepper, and toasted almond

As always Lula's inventive menus and gorgeous digs make it one of the best dining experiences in Chicago, but their Winter show of Stephen Eichhorn's floral collages really elevated the evening and for a moment reminded us that there's a light at the end of this never-ending season.
